How a Swiss car painter's daily struggle with toxic solvents sparked a mission to revolutionize an entire industry.
Born in the French-speaking region of Switzerland, Cédric Rey learned his painting trade in the German-speaking part, giving him fluency in both languages. He started his career as a car painter — working day after day in body shops, breathing in solvents, and watching his colleagues suffer from the same exposure.
For years, he lived the reality that millions of painters still face today: dangerous thinners, volatile organic compounds, strict ventilation requirements, and the ever-present risk to long-term health. He knew there had to be a better way.
In 2012, Cédric transitioned into technical sales, becoming a representative for Cromax paints across the region. This gave him a unique vantage point: he visited hundreds of workshops and realized that every single one faced the same problem — hazardous solvents were an accepted evil, not a necessity.
By 2015, the idea was born. What if spray-gun cleaning could be completely safe? What if it could protect workers, reduce environmental impact, and actually improve productivity — all at once?
In 2016, Technofox was officially founded. Cédric assembled a team of chemists and engineers, and together they spent over 3 years in R&D developing what would become Eco-Clean Plus — a 100% VOC-free, non-volatile, non-flammable cleaning formulation made entirely from non-classified, REACH-certified raw materials.
But a great solvent wasn't enough. The team engineered a dedicated cleaning machine specifically designed to maximize the solvent's performance. The result: the Technofox Compact IoT, the world's first and only patented connected gun-cleaning system.
The Swiss market responded immediately. Body shops embraced a solution that finally eliminated the dangers they had tolerated for decades. The "all-inclusive" rental model — machine, consumables, maintenance, and recycling in one predictable monthly fee — proved irresistible.
Between 2019 and 2025, Technofox expanded across Europe: Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Denmark, and beyond. Today, our machines operate in nearly 10 countries, serving over 1,000 workshops worldwide, with more than 200,000 cleanings performed.

In 2024, Cédric set his sights on the United States. With 100,000 body shops and growing regulatory pressure on VOC emissions, the US represents the largest single market opportunity for Technofox.
Technofox USA Inc. was incorporated in Delaware, and a new chapter began. The mission remains the same: transform spray-gun cleaning into a safe, eco-friendly, and profitable activity for every body shop in America.
"I lived the problem. I built the solution. Now I'm bringing it to the world." — Cédric Rey
